THEY DID SAY THEY WERE MADE FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC BAGS! MAYBE THEY SHOULD USED MORE USED PLASTIC! 1Seams come apart on sidesI was looking forward to using these bags since we now have to pay for plastic bags in California. One bag had a hole in the seam and had to be thrown away before even a single use. Another one of them ripped down the side seam after one use. Nothing heavy, the seam just ripped as I was placing it in the car. 1Sturdy bags - great deal!These bags are sturdy! I have been using these for groceries for about a year with absolutely no issue. I typically take out the bottom piece unless I need the extra stability, so I have a bunch of the bottom covered cardboard pieces laying around. These are a nice size and I especially like the handle length. I have some re-useable bags from other stores that have shorter handles, which make it really hard to carry the bag over your shoulder. I live in a third floor walk-up so it's important for me to be able to bring up as many bags as possible in one trip, which is usually 4-5 without issue.The gray color is exactly as shown... perfect for anyone who 1) loves gray as much as I do and 2) has any pet that sheds. I can't imagine how much cat hair you'd see on a darker color!My grocery store packs the bags pretty heavy and these have held up for the past year. They fold up nicely and fit in my purse if I need to make a quick trip to the store as well. Definitely a good investment! 5Durable, long lasting, best BUY!I bought 10 in April, 2015. I took out 3 to use at the grocery store and one for my recycling. These 4 are still in use and I have yet to even touch the other 6! I routinely use the bags to carry heavy items, such as 1.5 - 2 gallons of milk, which I place at the bottom of the bag and pack even more stuff atop the milk. I fold them back up the way they came and store them in my car so they will always be there when needed. Never tried to wash one because I have yet to soil one. Very very strong and very very durable. 5Great to use for gifts instead of wrapping paper!I am very happy with the two dozen grocery tote bags in Hunter's Green I purchased. They were well sewn, strong, and large bags with an insert. More and more grocery stores are doing away with paper and plastic bags and want customers to bring their own reusable bags. I highly recommend these. Mine even had the loop needed on them at the checkout counter. I also use them to hold Christmas gifts or any gifts. Anyone who gets one is always pleased to have it as an extra gift they can keep on using repeatedly! They can be used for so many things instead of just groceries. Your creative mind can find thousands of uses for them in your everyday life.Update for September 21, 2014:The price has gone up, and you get fewer bags now, but they are well worth the cost. I needed more of these wonderful tote bags. I chose the Teal color for 20 more this time. The Teal color is not even close to the same color as the Hunter Green was, but is a blue/green color. Hunter's Green was more of an evergreen or Christmas green color. They are still made well with the hooks, and the insert was covered with the same fabric and color this time. I can't say enough good about these tote bags. I have given so many of them away, and people always love them. They make perfect gifts without having to throw gift wrap in the garbage can. You can fill them with whatever you know your recipients need or will enjoy. For groceries, they will hold at least two of the plastic bags grocery stores use, with no garbage to get rid of afterwards. I think these bags are the answer to use for a lot of things. If you keep them on hand, you can always find plenty of uses for them. None of mine have had any odors, and have laundered well using cold water and a bit of detergent on delicates cycle, and air only to dry them for five minutes, and have held up to multiple uses. I am still very well pleased with this product and highly recommend them to everyone.I hope the manufacturers will get the Hunter's Green color back soon, as it is still my favorite for gift giving. The Red or Teal colors would do for gift giving, or even choose your recipient's favorite color, if you know it. Or choose a matching color for baby showers when the gender is already known, or if you know the colors they will be using in the nursery. They would make excellent diaper bag holders when you don't want to leave them in the boxes they come in at the store.Once you purchase these bags, you can understand how useful they are from then on. They even make great bags to use for moving smaller, more fragile items in your car that you wouldn't want a mover to handle in boxes. When you give stocking stuffers to your family members at Christmas, they make a great larger bag for holding more gifts. My family always enjoyed our stocking stuffers as much as our other gifts because a lot of thought went into them. Remembering the smaller details is always a large part of knowing that your gifts will be remembered for many years to come. Customizing your gifts is something personal that people will cherish about you.Update, March 30, 2015:It's just amazing how people love to receive these shopping totes as gifts. I am back for more, and hunter's green is available again, so I am going to purchase twenty more. FYI I also found some lovely pink and blue totes on Amazon that would be perfect to give in baby showers, female gifts, and male gifts. I even found some totes that are backpacks that are so adorable, I bought two of each color offered. Even if I never use them, someone will. It's hard to not buy these totes when you can find so many uses for them. To whomever sews them, I say thank you for your hard work, and thank you to the company who sells them. They make excellent gift bags that can be reused repeatedly. 5Great bags!Pretty good quality and very large, see pictures. 5Good BuyFilling up an entire trash bag with grocery bags after my shopping trip was just unacceptable. I knew using my own bags would be a pain, but I couldn't have that mountain of grocery bags in the landfill on my conscience. Well, these really aren't that big a deal to toss in the back of the car and bring in with me. Where they really shine is how much they hold and how sturdy they are. I'm one of those people that try to carry everything in one trip, loading up each arm with a dozen grocery bags. With these bags, I can carry the same weight in one or two bags without destroying my hands and arms on the plastic handles. That makes it all seem so much lighter for some reason. It now takes me half the amount of trips to get everything inside after shopping. I can't believe it took me this long to do shopping the right way. 5Reduced my ratingI'm normally leery of these kinds of bags because I don't want to be walking out of a store and have something breakable like a bottle of wine or a jar of pickles fall out due to a seam separation or a design flaw. In reading the reviews, I see some customers have received bags with faulty seams. If there was a quality-control issue, it appears to have been addressed -- and with Amazon's return policy, you really don't have to worry. When I received my bags, I pulled on every seam with force, and they were all sound. I suggest you do the same.These bags are designed in a way that focuses weight on a continuous piece of material. (With the bags standing up, when you look at the narrower sides, there is a continuous piece of material that runs down one side, runs across the bottom, then runs up the opposite narrow side -- without a seam in the entire run. Good design.)There is a piece of thin vinyl-like material that fits in the bottom. With similar reusable bags, I have found that this insert piece cracks after a while. I don't know if that will happen with these bags... time will tell. Anyway, they will work fine without the insert.The handles appear reliable. They extend all the way down the wider sides of the bag, to where the side meets the bottom, with stitching the whole way. I'm not concerned about handle weakness with this design.The material is lightweight yet sturdy, and from its composition, I think it will be easy to keep clean.Dimensions: The bags I received were just under 15 inches high. I pulled out paper grocery bags from two stores to compare: both were 14 inches high. In the standing-up position, the interior measurement of the bags I received is 12 inches on the long side and 9 1/4 inches wide. In comparison, the retail paper bags were 12 inches on the long side and just 6 3/4 inches wide. So these bags are bigger than the paper bags normally used by retail stores.With the vinyl-like piece in position at the bottom, the bags fold up to a thin configuration with the dimensions of 10 1/2 inches by 13 inches. Fine for me -- I cram them under my car seat. (Obviously you can remove the vinyl insert and scrunch them up for storage if you want.)Durability and longevity are important, and I won't know how well these bags last until I use them for a while. Up front, I think they will be good for quite a while.Bottom line: This is a good value for the price. I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because I don't yet know about long-term durability.UPDATE - MARCH 2018 - lowered my rating from 4 stars to 3...I've been using three of the bags, and not for very long. (The rest are stored for the future.) Unfortunately, one has already failed -- the thin plastic piece that sits in the bottom has cut through the bag. Evidently those plastic inserts are too sharp for the bag material. Disappointing. 3The best inexpensive grocery bag!PROS:LightweightEasily folds flat so you can have several in your trunk for that unexpected shopping tripHolds a lot of weight without sagging!Great price!CONS:Although they generally stand up straight sometimes I will fold over the two short sides to help make it a bit sturdier and less saggy when putting groceries in. Not a big deal, but there may be other thicker bags that are better at standing up straight.When you open the bag up to put stuff in, you've gotta do the additional step of pushing down the base. This takes just a second or two and is well worth it for not having a saggy bag.In about 10 months of use, one of the bags got a small tear in it when a bottle of rooster sauce (Sriracha) fell sideways. The spout somehow got poked through. However I was able to continue using the bad without the tear getting bigger.Have to be careful how you fold them when done, although this is true of any bag ... Any bag that gets folded along the big side will inevitably start flopping over to the side when you want it to stand up. So instead fold them the way they come: the bottom creases up and the big sides always always always must stay flat!4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 5Great purchaseI love these bags. I had been searching for some plain, reusable grocery bags to eliminate the amount of plastic bags we need to use. We tend to over stuff these bags, so instead of needing 10 plastic bags at the grocery store, we only need 4-5 of these bags. For size comparison, we can easily fit 6 juice/milk cartons (i.e. Minute Maid, Florida's Natural, Silk), 2x3, and there's still a little extra room on the sizes. We've been using these once a week for about two months and have not experienced any rips or tears.Update June 2019: we are still using these bags with absolutely no rips or tears! We stuff these full at the grocery store and they ve held up to any weight so far. We ve even washed them a couple times and they come out good and new. 5
