Just one little issue...As an administrative professional I am constantly using a paper trimmer for some project around the office. When our old one finally bit the dust I searched and searched for the right fit for our office. I found this beauty on Amazon and knew I had to give it a go. It's wonderful! Handles plenty of paper at one time, grid is fairly accurate, and it's very well made and sturdy enough to last for a good while I think. The only reason it gets 4 starts instead of 5 is because of the required cutting motion. There was a large sticker instructing me to push the handle down and to the left to cut. Ive never had to consciously push in to the left before with a trimmer so I started cutting away without this motion and it cut just fine, until I stacked my papers together and realized they were cut at an angle. The leftward motion is necessary for a straight cut. Not a huge deal, just takes a little getting used to. I'm sure I won't even have to think about it before long. 4While I was so pleased with the speedy deliveryWhile I was so pleased with the speedy delivery, my joy was short lived. I immediately saw that the markings on the ruler at the top did not line up with the graph on the bed. I also noted that the ruler seemed to be made of soft wood that would wear away after time. When I cut a 4 1/4" length from one sheet of 11" cardstock, the cut widened at the bottom, no matter how well I held it in place. I am no novice at paper cutting having been a teacher by profession and a card and paper crafter in my 15 years of retirement. I did a test with 5 sheets of copy paper doing the same cut on the Swingline and on my trusty Dahle. The precise cut from the Dahle was immediately obvious to the uneven, rough cut of the Swingline. I sent the Swingline back within the hour. I will continue to use the Dahe that I'm pleased with in every way except that it doesn't have 1/4" and 1/8" markings on the ruler and the grid has worn off twice. Maybe I got a lemon. Anyone out there know of a really good guillotine cutter? 1Paper cutter, best everI have owned a 12" model for 25 years and the spring just snapped. Amazing product to have lasted that long. I needed a new one, so I ordered this 15" model and man o man they still make the same great products, as a matter of fact they have made some improvements, just when I thought it couldn't get any better. It may seem a bit much to some folks, but go ahead and get ya one of those plastic pieces of junk and keep replacing it every 90 days. I will pass this one on to my grand kids. I 100% recommend this paper cutter. Ron T. 5Great cutter!I love this. Very sharp and cuts well. For those people who are complaining about not being able to cut straight, you need to hold the entire sheet of paper down. You have to do this with any guillotine cutter otherwise the bottom corner is going to get pulled while cutting. That's why your cuts are not straight. It's not rocket science. I have a long metal ruler that goes along the entire length of this cutter. I use that to hold my paper down near the blade and works great. 5Buy it once.Wife wanted a cutter for craft projects. This thing is built like a tank and looks good too. She went right at it and said it was really nice. There was a sticker on there to remind people that a certain leftward pressure helps the process. She said she thought everybody knew that already. I reminded her of the "don't eat" labels on stuff. Great item. Should last forever for what she's using it for. I got some points for buying one that is heavy and sturdy, instead of a cheaper pressboard or plastic model. They know when you are taking care of them. 5Solid build and most important is it worksHad this for about three months now. Works great and the quality is every bit it should be. Sure beats a plastic thing that called itself a cutter that I was using. Solid build. Cutting edge is nice and tight so for what I use it for it does not want to drift. My use is primarily trilling photos printed on photo paper with a pro level photo printer so if the edge is not correct the cost of the paper and printing is out the window. I have also used it some for paper and it will cut 10 15 sheets of standard printer paper with ease. There are lower cost options but I for one do not regret the quality I got with this purchase and I have used it enough now to say that. 5Great after I corrected a factory error.Great build quality. Very sturdy, and the metal arm makes a world of difference over cheaper ones. The reason for the 3 star review is that the top ruler was crooked on mine. First thing I did was try to cut a straight line, and it failed. On closer inspection, I saw that the wooden ruler/guide at the top flared out towards the end. Easy enough fix. Removed it, sanded it on a flush surface, and now it's perfect. It's a shame I had to correct it myself, as cutting in a straight line is what this product was made for. 3A good, stable, long-lasting cutterThis is like the ones your teachers used in school. They don't take as many pages as the description claims; I can put 4-8 regular 20-lb sheets in and still get a pretty smooth cut. Two sheets of card stock provide a totally smooth cut but anything more than two sheets makes the cut a little rough along the edge. I wouldn't say it's meant for high-quantity cutting, but it does do a quality job on precision work. The blade is exposed, so be careful how you handle it and keep it away from little kids. It's not like a rotary cutter that gets dull over time; these cutters are supposed to stay sharp because of their contact with the metal along the side - not quite sure how that works, but someone explained it to me once at the school where I worked. It's a good brand - if you do price comparisons, you'll see the price is right for the item and the features. 4Amazing product. First let me say I started out ...Amazing product. First let me say I started out my college days working for 2 family owned office supply stores and continued to do so for over 9 years. I also ran the art department and did purchasing (before computers were used in offices). I worked for a guy who had been selling stationary since the 40's. Ohhh the jewels of wisdom he taught me!I mention all of this because brand names 30 years ago were not monopolies. Swingline has always been barnone a great company. I've used 42" guiottine cutters in my graphic arts classes as well as my dads ancient "office green" monster at home for years. I cut my own mats and illustration board as well. These swingline cutters are as close as you will come to the heavy duty professional style cutters. I've had the fiskars and martha stewart lines and there's just no comparison. The measurements are dead on. Spend a little extra and get a better product. The unit is made well with superior materials. The maple wood is gorgeous and smooth. You will not be disappointed! 5Works great, I love itI love this cutter. Yes, as others have mentioned, you have to press inward as you are cutting to get a nice, clean cut, but this is the case with every cutter I have ever used, throughout all my school years and adult life. It does take up a lot of footprint, so I had to find a place to store it in my art studio when not in use. I kept the box it came in and store it in that, next to a wall, out of the way. It is heavy enough to be reliable and sturdy when using it, but not too heavy to pick up. It's great. My only complaint is that the sticker that the company stuck on the grid surface in the lower right corner has a glue backing that I simply cannot get off! I tried goo-gone and similar products, to no avail, so now I have this sticky spot that I have to cover up with waxed paper so it won't mess up the surface of the paper I am cutting. Dear Swingline -- change your glue for that sticker and use an easy-to-remove sticker!! 5
